It applies exclusively to heat-treated steel parts with a tensile strength (Rm) of 1,240 MPa or above. When a part is locally magnetised, the abrupt movement of magnetic domain walls generates a characteristic electrical signal &#8211; Barkhausen noise &#8211; whose intensity varies according to the structural condition of the material.
